well, people probably got eaten a lot before the bronze age, so death by mastication was probably the leading cause of death. I bet the birthing process was no piece of cake, either. Beyond that, there were probably lots of bacteria we had no defense against- expecially before fire was discovered. How long has E.Coli been around?

The oldest type of infection is almost certainly bacteriophage viruses. These viruses infect bacteria and since bacterial cells evolved long before other cell types, bacteria were probably being infected by bacteriophages millions of years before bacterial cells (or viruses) began to infect non-bacterial cells.
