Blondie -
Fact of the matter is that Iraq is in a Civil War with 2 sides Sunnis and Shites.
All the Repulican/Neo Con feel good answers of Victory, Peace, Democracy mean nothing if you don't have a plan or means to achieving it.
If you understood the region you would understand that Sunni/Shite sentiments over rule national patriotism since they Iraq hasn't been around that long.
I could school you more, but I'll let you do some research first.
As for talking like you know something about the subject and in reality knowing nothing, you get thumbs down.

First who are the neo-cons?
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Neo-conservative
This movement was founded by two rabid American Zionists and it was the powerful high level neo-cons in the Bush administration that pushed the US into it's illegal atrocity in Iraq.
Pearle and Wolfowitz were the two most infamous neo-cons and both are rabid zionists with close ties to the conservative Likud party of Israel.
This has nothing to do with anti-semitism as FACTS are not racists but simple FACTS.
So as in fact the neo-con movement was founded and led by leading rabid Zionists, the question really is ,who would the Zionists support ? They of course will fully support the Sunnis period .Why ??
Iraq is some 65 % Shia and 35 % Sunni .The only other Muslim state in which the Shia sect is the majority is in Iran which are two of Israel's deadliest enemies.
From an American (non-Zionist view) ,the US will also support the Sunnis over the Shia for a number of profoundly important reasons.
First ,the US's major ally is the vile dictatorship of the Saud family in Saudi Arabia The US fully backs Saudi Arabia militarily, politically and economically for it relies on Saudi Arabia to maintain a STABLE environment in the Middle East for the flow of relatively cheap oil .
The REAL POWER in Saudi Arabia is the relatively radical Muslim sect the Wahhabis which are in fact SUNNI. Most experts agree that if the Wahhabis ever decide to oust the Saudi dictators and establish an Islamic Iran like state, the Wahhabis could do it easily .
On absolutely every social/religious/sociological issue, the Saudi dictatorship cedes all powers to the Wahhabis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabiowers to the Wahhabis .
(As an aside, many experts believe that one of the most basic reasons for Bush's war was the fact that not only were the Saudis (wealthy individuals) financing terrorism and Bin Laden in particular, most of the 9/11 terrorists were in fact Sunni Wahhabi Muslims .The US heard alarm bells going off and realized that the Saudi dictatorship could in fact be destroyed quickly by the Sunni Wahhabis and a new Iran could emerge. It therefore decided that the US's best bet would be to war against a weak Saddam and take over the country and most importantly ,have their own stable sourse of oil and not be captive to Saudi Arabia, It has not turned out that way however.),
At this point the US has literally little to no choice but to support the Sunnis over the Shia for if they didn't,the Sunni Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia would revolt against the US which means against the Saudi dictatorship.
One of the great filthy sytinking lies and propagandas of the Iraqi atrocity has been the fact that few people are aware that the greatest supporter of Iraqi insurgents (mostly the minority Sunnis) that for over 4 years were KILLING AMERICAN SOLDIERS has been SAUDI ARABIA.
While the filthy war mongering Bush demonizes and vilifies the Iranians for supporting insurgents in Iraq, the US and Bush have said very little about their ALLY SAUDI ARABIA financing the insurgents .
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/27/world/middleeast/27saudi.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
In fact ,Saudi Arabia's support of the Sunni insurgents in Iraq is many times larger than Iran's support of the Shia insurgents but ignorant Americans are not to be told the truth because they just may demand of their government to stop supporting a country like Saudi Arabia who are financing the slaughter of American soldiers.
This entire above scenario has in fact been validated in the past 6 months.
Specifically, the US has made "peace" with their former enemies the Iraqi Sunnis and are now supplying them with arms etc etc to fight al qaeda.
This is but abother of the BIG STINKING LIES.
Again virtually all experts agree that all the violence and slaughtering going on in Iraq is do MOSTLY TO IRAQI INSURGENTS (IRAQI SUNNIS AND SHIA FIGHTING EACH OTHER ) and NOT TO AL QAEDA AT ALL.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070503-6.html
ERGO,the US support of the Iraqi Sunnis is NOT PRIMARILY TO FIGHT AL QAEDA TERRORISTS BUT IRAQI SHIAS !!!!!
Keeping the American public ignorant and dumb is really what it is all about .
As soon as the Iraqi government heard about the US arming and training the Iraqi Sunnis ,all hell broke loose as the Iraqi government ,being a democracy (at least the election) is majority SHIA.
So what we now have is the US fully supporting the MINORITY SUNNIS in IRAQ to fight and KILL IRAQI SHIA !!!
The Wahhabis Sunnis of Saudi Arabia are happy as pigs in sh_ _ about the US now giving their Sunni members in Iraq their total support over the majority Iraqi Shia.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
By taking this vile Maciavellian (sic) position, the US is positioning itself for any eventual problems with Iran.
By supporting the Sunnis (which world wide make up the vast majority of Muslims) ,the US makes the Wahhabi Sunnis happy, the Saudi dictatorship happy and ISOLATES THE SHIA in Iran and Iraq .
If the US ever acts against Iran,we will have on one side the US and SOME of it's allies and on the other side China,Russia,Iran,Iraq etc.
All of this depends on the US premise that Muslims will NOT put aside their monumentally destructive internal theological disputes and unite as MUSLIMS against the US and the West.
For all these reasons, the neo-cons (which is in fact the US ) will support the Sunnis in a heart beat over the Shia

Well, I for one would like to see them fight out their differences in the political arena. As for which faction I would like to support. I would say, I don't care as long as they are a democratic peaceful nation that does NOT support terrorism.
What I don't get about this whole Neo-Con and Liberal thing is. When someone asks a question, like the one you asked. Why does legitimate answers get a thumbs down. It seems most conservatives feel as I do. Yet because their answers are not as radical as you "set them up" to be they get a thumbs down.
I am sorry to burst your bubble but it seems, because of the context of your question, you was hopping the right would say something very radical so you could point your finger and say "I told you so! there animals!".

At first they favored the Shiites, and helped them write a constitution which guaranteed Shiite dominance over the government and the oil revenues. They forgot James Madison's theories about factions and the tyranny of the majority; principles which have kept this country together for 218 years.
Now they are helping Sunnis here and there, and Iranians are helping the some of the Shiite militias.
Whenever I hear a retired general on tv talk about who is on who's side, and what the consequences are if we do this or that, my head starts to swim. But I am confident, as you certainly are, that our leaders, Bush and Cheney, understand all the ramifications of this war, and that they know exactly what sides to take.

I am unsure. I do know, however, that the "war" in Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism or with 9/11. I also know that congress has never given us a declaration of war.

Neo Con is an oxymoron.
Conservative means to maintain the current, "neo" means new, you cannot New maintain what is current, it is either "New" or already existing. It cannot be both.
Do people every take English in High School anymore?
"Conservatives", and I use the term loosely, want a Democratic Republic with minimum social programs and maximum free market capitalism in Iraq.
Something similar to what is in most industrialized nations of the world.

I would like us to win. The Sunni and the Shiite are only sects of the same religion. If there is only one Quran then they must be the same. If they can not tolerate each other then they surely can not tolerate us. If this is the case then it is in our interests to see that neither survive.
