well my Lola is from Batangas, and I am lucky that I am 1/4 Flip so she said that the Batanguenos are brave coz they are always the pain in the butt for the invading nation, constantly opposing them when everyone else loses hope, but some people say that its only because of the coffee since the brewed coffee originated from Batangas and the Batanguenos are used to it makes them "matapang"(the word "matapang" is an adjective for brave or unsweetened coffee that has an overpowering taste) so is the Batanguenos brave or what???

Yes. I could tell many tales of their bravery, from personal experience.

I knew one guy whose surname is "Galit" (Rage) and whose middle name is "MulingTapang" (Renewed Courage), and he used to chase Turks who were malingering in our company. With a wooden club.

Now, mind you, Turks are the strongest wrestlers in the world, but they would run away from him.

And then, there was this someone from Malvar, who drove without a license, hit a Saudi car, and everybody had to be taken to hospital. And he went home instead to the barracks, because there was job the next morning. They were taken in front of the Emir, and the Saudi Prince made him a "brother", instead of putting him in jail.

I think there was a King of Cambodia who hired personal bodyguards, and they were all from Batangas.

EDIT: Oh! But your Question was "How come", or the Why of their bravery. I don't know. May be because of something in the land? Their particular love for country? Or is it because of Batanguenas? (Women of Batanggas).

Lolz. That's just a generalization, the same way that people may automatically assume that all New Yorkers are overworked, and all Californians are laid back, etc etc.

Both of the reasons that you give have some merit to them, because during the Spanish occupation, a lot of the people who joined the revolution were people who were in the provinces close to the main cities and towns, and Batangas happened to have a main town (and it still is). So yeah, a lot of the fighters were Batanguenos, but there were also people from Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, etc etc etc...

On the other hand, Batangas is also famous for the "Kapeng Barako", which can be loosely translated to "Brute Coffee". It's a strong type of coffee which has a certain tang and kick to it, and since Batanguenos often drink this brew because it's indigenous to their area, it is often joked that the people of the province may have inherited some of the "brute" properties of their coffee. Hehe.

i think i know the answer. batangas is one of the eight provinces which represents the eight rays of the sun in our national flag. those rays mean, those eight were the first ones to revolt against the spaniards a long time ago. a number of heroes were also batanguenos. and maybe, it has also something to do with the coffee:)

its just an adjective sweepingly attached to batangueños which is not always true. why, they also say that the warays of leyte are brave, the same with the tausugs of mindanao.

ever heard that ilocanos are kuripot? well, is it always true?

that some war heroes are from batangas does not make anyone who speak with the same accent brave

Quite the contrary. The Batanguenos are brave because, while they produce the coffee, they don't drink coffee.

It is said "Kaya ka ninenerbiyos, kasi ang lakas mo magkape" (As they said, you become nervous when you drink a lot of coffeee. )

Why are they brave? They sell their beautiful coffee instead. So the people who enjoy their coffee are the ones "ninenerbiyos"

LOL.
