For those with children, do you:

Take your children only to community holloween events,

To neighbors that you know,

To any house with a light on?

What do you do for your kids on this Holloween night

Louisville holds a wonderful community event at the zoo. We always took our son there and to a few neighbors houses where we knew they would enjoy seeing our son all dressed up.

I take my grands to my huge church annaul Fall Harvest which is so so fun and just like Halloween but we leave out the ghosts, wtiches, and what we would consider evil things as we want to not celebrate a "satan day". I would never ever take them out to local homes, even in my nice neighborhood, there have been pins, needles and razor blades and other very icky stuff. And thanks for answering my ceramic heater question with the idea of wool fabric for the windows, I have a huge stash and will find some for free in there thanks so much. Hope my answer to your question helps, I was an elem teacher and feel very strongly about the safety of our kids. My next door neighbors cat was caught several years ago by what I would imagine would be evil people and the tied tight rubber bands around his testicles and shaved all of his hair off including whiskers and all and then carved with a razor 6x6x6 on his side. Unfortunately he lived, but he used to be the sweetest cat. His name was Garfield. After I saw that right next door, I never do any Halloween decor or anything that encourages kids as those evil ones are out there and look at it this way, What if that was your cat or child ????????? Not a rare occurance anymore, don't close your eyes to what is really out there I saw it every day when the kids showed up at elem school !!!

I am not sure what a straight response to this question can accomplish when you aren't interested in reasons.

We don't have children and we carefully batten down the hatches, lock our front gates and all access to the property so that we do not get any Halloween visitors. We have dogs who are very territorial, and do not take kindly to strangers, especially after dark.

I personally think that perhaps it's time for this Halloween practise to be replaced by some other kind of dress-up event for children. I've never heard of any Community Halloween event in this area, but it seems like a better, safer idea.
