Well, being shy is a hindrance in a job interview. They are not looking to hire shy people, they need you to be outgoing, energetic and alert. You have to be able to sell your personality and your abilities or else you are just wasting your time trying to get that job. The market is not easy on those looking for work, you really have to compete to get the job you want. It's not like you're the only person they are interviewing, and there are probably 10 other people looking to get the same job. If you're quiet they'll look you over. You have to show them why you'd be perfect for that job, and that you will fit in with the office culture that they have. Any lack of confidence will show and you won't get a second interview. And have a list of questions to ask them, they hate when the interviewee doesn't ask questions, it amke you look like you're not interested if you don't.

Try to imagine that you're someone else for the interview. I'm shy too but did a drama performance last year, and found it so much easier cos i thought "well, if i mess up, it's my character, not me" - try to think like that too.
