Sometimes there isn't.
You need 2 power cords; one for the pc and one for the monitor.

I'm guessing the PC u used to use was getting on a bit.
Yes it used to be that a PC PSU had a socket to feed power to the monitor, but I haven't seen any like that in a while. It's mainly because the components inside the PC take more and more power now, it very common for the Video card to need its own power line from the PSU, multiple CD/DVD drives, hardrives and various other stuff we plug in and expect to work.
Basically it just means that you need to get anothe power lead (nick it from the ketle...no-one will notice ;) ) and an additional power point on the wall or space on the adaptor block.

Some computer monitors gain their power from the tower - in which you would have two power lead sockets. In this case, the monitor will need to be plugged into the mains for its power.

hi
no,most modern p.c power supplys just have one power lead socket, you are correct though, older power supplys had 2 sockets, the main one which the power lead went into and the other which continued to the monitor
all you need to do now is buy another power lead and use this for the monitor
this is also much better as before if your p.c,s power supply blew then you couldnt use your monitor
so the new configuration is
1.power connector to p.c tower
2.power connector to monitor
3.ignore the second outlet socket on your p.cs power supply
for added piece of mind purchase a Masterplug 4-Way Surge Protector from http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9828128/Trail/searchtext%3ESURGE.htm,this will allow you to plug your p.c,monitor and any other hardware that requires a power source such as printer or scanner
any problems let me know
good luck mate !

AT-computers used to have an mains output on the power-supply. The power-button of the computer switches the mains to the power-supply on or off.
ATX-computers don't. The monitor should have a separate power-cord, and have to be turn on/off, or left in standby-mode.
The computers power-supply respond on a button-press of a push-button (power) connected to the motherboard. In addition the motherboard can also switch-on the power-supply at a specific time, or when accessed to by an Ethernet network.
Some power-supplies were compatible, having an real power-button, and could be controlled by the motherboard.

yes there definately should be 2 power cables - one to power the monitor and one for the main box. it shouldn't be too hard to pick up another one... they are pretty standard and seem to get around everywhere !!
good luck.

A few PSUs have a plug in on them where you can plug in the monitor--most dont. Cords are super cheap.
