Actually it wasn't over money (according to him and CBS anyways). He said that he dislikes violence in television which resulted in creative differences with the show.

You can see an interview with him here:

He was my hero on that show, so it really sucks that he's leaving.

I don't know why he left but he's the only reason I was watching the show. I'm not sure that I'll spend the time watching it now that he's not on it.

The last series he did he only stayed for 2 or 3 yrs. too. Maybe he gets tired of a show after that long and wants to do something different.

I read somewhere that it WASN'T about money but more of creative differences between him and the producers and or writers. He was wanting to go this way and they wanted to go another way. From what I read, he has more than enough money to do as he pleases and I guess he is, though I will miss him on the show.

It became no longer a ask your self to me interior the least. as much as I understand Mr Patinkin's abilities (all of them, inclusive of his making a song) he has pulled this stunt earlier (keep in mind Chicago desire?) i think of he gets uninterested in repetition and desires consistent demanding situations to maintain his concentration (I dunno i'm guessing right here) so all people who does hire him long term, desires to observe of that. That being stated, i do no longer watch the show purely because of the fact he became on it. although, he became a great reason and he helped me forget on the subject of the stereotypical 'laptop nerd' who constantly helps out while the author's can no longer ensure a thank you to artwork the plot line. Oh nicely, wager we can't have all our hopes while it is composed of television will we...or will we?

I had read that he was disturbed by the content of the show. The story arcs of serial killers, gruesome effects, were starting to weigh on his conscience. Too bad, 'cuz he is a truly gifted actor. I hope he can find another drama show that is better suited for his talents.

Probably money, or probably leaving before the sink ships. Since Criminal Minds doesn't have a spin-off show I'm guessing it's close to the end.
