If the transmission is neutral the engine will not rotate, the crankshaft will not rotate and the pistons will not move. By either pushing in the clutch or putting the transmission in neutral you essentially disconnected the engine from the rest of the drive train.

First, lose the caps. It seems like yer yelling. We're not deaf.

Secondly, if it's automatic, there will be no crank movement period, as that's how torque converters fail. It will, however, slow you the hell down anyways, even if it doesn't rotate the engine.

Thirdly, if manual, no. Trans is in neutral, no connection to crank, so no. Push the clutch in, shift to neutral and let it out and you will be eating dashboard.

4th, if the piston's dont move with the crank, the engine's toast. They're connected by hard steel rods, called connecting rods, they're pretty hard to break.

If it is an automatic transmission the torque converter will still be connected to the engine, so it could feasibly still be turning.

I agree that won't happen with a manual trans since you move the clutch plate away from the spinning engine allowing it to come to a stop.

40 degrees down hill? when a vehicle is in neutral thats what it means nuetral no move ment? your driveline is the onlything movin' which means your brakes still work, and your speedo works, odometer works, ignition still on air works, radio works but engine is off!when you restart it be carefull not to damage the ingnition elements if a clutch is involved up it in!
