latitude

Here are two phrases to help you differentiate the two.

Longitude are the "long" lines on a map or globe that run from the North Pole to the South Pole. They define your east/west position.

Corona beer uses the tag line "adjust your latitude". The commercials always show someone on a tropical beach. The latitude lines define your north/south position.

Think of cutting the earth in half along one of these lines and envision what you'd have left. By "cutting" on a longitude line you would east and west pieces.

By "cutting" along a latitude line you create north and south pieces of the earth. Cutting on the zero latitude line (the equator) divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

It's a latitude, particularly the Equator, that separ8s the Northern & Southern Hemispheres. The Prime Meridian (0°) & the 180th meridian (where much of the International D8 Line is based) r the longitudes that separate the Western & Eastern Hemispheres.

That would be latitude. The Equator that divides North from South is latitude 0 degrees. Longitude divides East from West Hemispheres. Longitude 0 degrees is in Greenwich, UK, and is an arbitrary "line" that everyone simply agrees is 0 degrees.

The latitude called the equator divides the earth into northern and southern hemisphere. While the longitude called the prime meridian and the international dateline divides the globe into eastern and western hemisphere. Although these lines are imaginary.
