I'm from Winnipeg, and many of my family and friends are in Calgary.
You're not really hurting in either city, are you?
The consensus I've heard is that Winnipeg's society is easier to fit into. Life is easier to afford, too.
Calgary is better if housing and money isn't a problem (or you can't imagine it ever being a problem), if you love having an NHL team, and if Winnipeg's winter takes too much out of you.
Not that Calgary's winter is a cakewalk, but it's not quite as challenging as Winnipeg.
Education and cultural activities etc, pretty even steven.
I'd be very reluctant to leave Winnipeg, personally - no matter where the destination was.
But I'm sure I'd say the same if I was brought up in Calgary, I probably would be reluctant to go to Winnipeg or anywhere else.
I say Winnipeg, but I understand it's a biased answer.
Ex-Winnipeggers often say they're frustrated at the hold that WInnipeg has on them, they always seem to miss it moreso than people from other cities miss their cities when they relocate.

I'm from BC, and have been to both. Therefore I think an unbiased opinion. I would go with Calgary. HOWEVER!! It depends. Calgary is booming right now. That means everyone has money, and best if you do have money before you go. Sure, jobs pay well, but if you don't work, like a parent or retired I'd think twice. And sure, BASIC jobs pay more than minimum wage, but that means restraints cost more. I just heard a story that restaurant hours are shrinking because they can't hire/keep enough help. So services cost more and can be less convenient. Also if you want quiet and to be alone, you might have problems. (But Calgary isn't that big.)
lol - So, after saying that, like I said, Calgary is my choice. It fits what I would want.

Well, I will only go by what choices you want and say that Calgary is the better choice. Calgary is the sunniest major city in Canada (Winnipeg comes close behind, though), Calgary has amazing scenery, a lot of job openings but with high rent and housing costs, a more diverse population, better airport and transit service, and WAY less crime than Winnipeg. Winnipeg has only three advantages over Calgary: cheaper housing/rent, friendlier population, and more liberal than Calgary.
