I can see it happening, and soon. The 2007 postseason schedule, largely imposed by TV but willingly adopted by MLB, builds in even more slack days during the LCS and WS. Squeeze out two of those, tack on two more potential games during the Division Series, and voila, there ya go. Yes, this means that the World Series could end in early November, but that really is a very small adjustment and fan complaint wouldn't make any difference (or last very long).

The Series pushed into November once before, in 2001, thanks to the mid-September unpleasantness. That same event caused the NFL to move its 2002 big game a week back as well, into the first weekend of February -- and the NFL loved it. The Super Bowl, starting with the 2004 staging, is now a February event. I don't typically draw comparisons with the doings of the lesser sports, but this one is telling: push it a bit further back, and watch the fans adapt. MLB will do this, you betcha.

I think it's easier for lesser teams to get through a 5-gm series than a 7 gm one. That's okay with the format they've got now but I think you'd see the best teams come through in 7 gm series, and it would also make upsets in THAT situation that much sweeter

No. They had a 5 game LCS for years and it wasn't satisfactory. Now, with the wild-card, the division series should be 7 games also. If the have to have a 5 game series, it should be the LCS again. It should be 7 games for all three series. And it should be on stations that people without cable can get, too.

I hate seeing the WS diluted by other series going 7 games.
I would go 3 games (no home games for wild card teams in this round), 5 games (better record gets 1, 2, 5), and save 7 games for the real deal.

I'm personally in favor of making the LDS 7-games series, but when it comes to this year's NLDS, it wouldn't have made a difference whether they were 5- or 7-game Series. The Rox and D-backs still would have won.

The NLDS will eventually be a 7-game series, and there will be 2 wild cards in each league with a one-game playoff.

I'll bet this happens when the next basic agreement is due...

wildcard and league series are exciting and interesting for the fans but in all honesty the world series should be played amongst the 2 teams with the better records of each league right after the season is over.
