Osmosis is the diffusion of water particles and diffusion is general molecules. They are almost the same and they both are the equilbrium of high and low concentrated areas.

The difference is very simple. Osmosis is a special type of diffusion. Osmosis is the diffusion of water.

diffusion is when molecules go from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. imagine this, people waiting outside of a nearly empty train to get inside. the people from outside will DIFFUSE to the inside. but the main goal is to have an equilibrium, meaning balance between both sides. And osmosis is just the diffusion of water. Also remember that the diffusion does not require any energy ependiture. hope this helps!

Osmosis is the process of diffusion through a differentially permeable membrane. Diffusion can happen with out osmosis, as in when ink is added to water and colors the water equally (no membrane - no osmosis).

Well, osmosis is the movement of only water molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration that is down a concentration gradient whereas diffusion is the movement of any molecules or particles from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration that is down a concentration gradient.
There must be a partially permeable membrane for osmosis to occur whereas in diffusion there can be a partially permeable membrane but it is not necessary.

Its almost the same... Both moves from higher to lower concentrations, just that in osmosis the molecules move through a differentially permeable membrane, and in diffusion such a membrane is absent...

hey.....well diffusion is the movement of gas particles from their region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration, while osmosis is the movement of water across a semi-permeable membrane from a region of high concentration to a region of lower conc of water.
soo to cut all that short...the main difference is that osmosis takes place across a semi-permeable membrane....but not diffusion
