If you have a newer, or higher-end computer, this could be possible and normal. The fan may be activated by a temperature sensor. Playing games usually raises the temperature of the processor or video card on a computer. This rise in temperature may tell the fan to spin faster and slow down when the game is not being played.

Well, as you found out, you definitely don't want to just stop the fans. That's bad, mmkay? If you are lucky, this might fix it. As a fan gets dirty/clogged with dust, it can spin unevenly, and that makes a lot of noise. Get a can of compressed air, spray it around, and clean out the inside of your computer, particularly the fans. That isn't a bad idea no matter what, so probably worth the price of a can of air. If that doesn't fix it, it may just be that you have noisy fans. You can buy fans (and disk drives and so on) that are specifically intended to be more quiet, if you have the ability to swap them in.

Playing games causes the computer's processor to work hard because it's doing so much during the game. When the processor works, it gets hot, so the fan turns on a higher setting to cool it off. After the game is over and the processor gets cool again, the fan can turn down.

Sometimes fans will increase speed to compensate for games or software that produces more stress on the system. But you may need to investigate and make sure temperatures are not exceeding the standard temps by to much. And sometimes it might be the CD/DVD spinning or the hard drive not just the fans.

Oh my gosh, I have the same problem!! I normally can't hear the fan when I'm not playing The Sims 2, but sometimes, during game-play, the fan will get REALLY loud for like a minute, and then get quiet again. It's annoying. What do you suppose it is? You think it's dirty?

It depends on how loud you're talking about. Generally a mid to high-end game will cause some stress to the system (maybe a lot depending on the system), which causes heat. The fan will probably spin faster to help cool things down, which is normal.

You just need to open the case and clean out the dust. And through long time usage, the fan will start getting louder. You can always buy the quiet fans or a fan control for your computer.

Yes! Playing a computer game eats up a lot of CPU usage, therefore, more heat! More heat equals faster fan to drive all that heat away!

Mine did the same thing and it turned out that my fan was freezing up. In fact, both of them were bound up. I almost fried it. Be aware if you hear NO fan noise that you need to turn you computer off pronto!♥

All you gotta do is press Ctrl+Alt+Delete...
Check your CPU Usage under Performance to how hard your computer is working.
Then look under Processes to see what applications/programs are using up all the memory.
Also, a girl that plays computer games? SEXY!
