I am trying to figure out what I will be majoring in, and I just realized that something that has always intrigued me is the people who determine how others died...whether they were strangled, poisoned, etc....Im trying to see how and what it will take to get to that profession, however I do not know what the people who determine how others died are called...anybody know?????

Thanks

It's called Mortuary Science and the military uses them alot since alot of lawsuits happen for wrongful death. Yes - it's a profession that is not affected by the economy. I've often thought about it myself. A rare percentage of us can actually tolerate viewing dead bodies and actually working with them. I know some will think that's weird but........go for it. Alot of them work with law enforcement too in order to help solve murders and do genetic testing on hairs and stuff like that. Type mortuary science along with your state abbreviation in the Yahoo Toolbar and you'll find schools that offer it. Talk to one of their recruiters.

A coroner is either the presiding officer of a special court, a medical officer, or an officer of law responsible for investigating deaths, particularly those happening under unusual circumstances.

Many jurisdictions have a coroner or their equivalent. Medical examiner is a frequent alternative title in the United States; however, unlike a coroner, a medical examiner must be a licensed pathologist.
