Yes they can, but why would you want them to? Unlike real grass which grows in soil, it has carpet backing. The urine will be on the fake grass and its backing and the smell will linger, not be washed away. In fact, when it rains, it will bring out the stench. Will urinating on fake grass hurt a dog--NO. Can they be trained to use it--Yes. Will the owner of fake grass be happy about your dog urinating on the grass--NO.

You must have the same concerns I have about fake grass. It is touted as having no maintenance. I don't know about that. It still has to be raked. foreign substances like the dog stuff won't wash into the ground and go away. I'm not sure what will happen if a smoker discards a lighted cigarette.

There may be better alternatives.

Unfortunately, dogs can wee wherever they have a mind to (including the living room carpet). It depends on your dog whether he wants to be snobby and hold out for real grass or not.

Like astro-turf? I do believe they can. I was just looking at a pet catalong tonight & one of the items was an indoor "patch of grass" which is used to potty train your dog. So, I believe fake grass is fine for dogs to go to the restroom on.

Yes, they can--and your carpet, newspaper, etc. It depends on whether you want them to or not. But, they can be trained to do it, it that is your question.
