Can I get a little help on Finland's history?
Finland was part of Sweden? Ruled by the King of Sweden?
Till 1809?
Then it was given to Russia? Why?
Then they seceded in 1917?

Yep.

> Then it was given to Russia? Why?

Russia defeated Sweden in Northern War. So they took as much from Swedes as they could.

> Then they seceded in 1917?

They created Finnish army and defeated Communist forces. After that communists proclaimed that they are so kind that they "let Finland be independent".

For several centuries Finland had been a part of the Swedish Kingdom until 1809.

As a result of the "Finnish War" (sometimes you can also read "Northern War") Sweden lost Finland to Russia in 1809

After the Oktober Revolution in Russia "...the Bolsheviks declared a general right of self-determination, including the right of complete secession..." on 15/11/1917. On 06/12/1917 the Finnish Parliament declared Finland's independence.
