Are there 2 forms of EMO - or is it just me?

Why does it seem like there's two forms of EMO audiences: 1)the nerdy-guitar-strumming-black-rimmed-glasses-wearing-messenger-bag-carrying retard (think Dashboard Confessional) and 2) the wannabe-facepainting-eyeliner-abusing-goth-whore (think Good Charlotte)......since when did Goth and accoustic guitar get lumped together into EMO?

I think that a lot of people today are too young to know what Goth is, so they assume it's emo. But it's not that big of an issue.
