Mozart was proficient on the fortepiano, harpsichord, clavichord, organ, violin and viola. He also played an instrument called pedalier piano (more specifically, a fortepiano with pedals for the bass notes). Mozart never played on the piano as we know it today, even less on a concert grand, as both developed in the early 19th. century. The fortepiano differed from the modern piano in many aspects like the leather-covered hammers (instead of felt), thinner strings and its much lighter case construction. Hope that helps! .
