btw my answer is c), the US government is too corrupt to run it and Halliburton would find a way to squeeze more money out of it somehow.

I don't have a problem with it and I tend to vote Republican... it is not my first choice but since this nation's government will not somehow reform the private insurance companies practices then I think we should seriously consider universal healthcare.

I personally don't see this step as socialism... socialized but it is not some sort of revolution, that kind of talkking is ridiculous. I lived in the Czech Republic (a much more free economy than the United States) for several years (I am a born American citizen) and I qualified for their national healthcare and beneffited from it. There weren't lines and the care was very good... nations like Canada, the UK and the French actually have systems that rival the United States' system and actually beats us out on many services. Premiums from private insurance here are extremely expensive to both individuals and employers... and will get the same services for more money spent.

The only people that profit are the insurance companies and the physicians. Doctors would probably have to take less money but they will still make more money than the average citizen (this is true in all nations with universal healthcare). We would also be paying less in property taxes in large counties because a lot of the taxes in large metropolitan areas actually go to public healthcare hospitals anyway.

People should really be considering all the factors in this type of system instead of just dismissing it as "socialism". We should consider the economics of this if we aren't willing to see the good of caring for all people.

universal Health care would be a huge mistake. (1) government cant run anything efficiently. (2) higher taxes because healthcare would be a massive black hole for tax money and government keeps throwing money at problems. (3) healthcare standards will drop. (4) people will not want to become Docters because why spend 8 years in med school to make no profit and get paid government wages. Universal Healthcare is a all around bad idea it will not only destory the best healthcare system in the world. It will raise taxes through the roof which will result in many other problems.

the privet sector does a much better job at everything. They manage the system a lot better because they want a profit. A lot more people want to be doctors because there is more money to have with your own privet pratice. Better technology for treatment because companies want to get the best so other companies will buy them. Profit is not a evil thing it creats better products and services. Just look at England and Canadas healthcare system. Its a joke the waiting lists are a mile long people cant get treatment. having a physical or check up is next to impossible. People come to the USA for health care treatment for a reason.

Republicans are just trying to be considerate of your countrymen...

If the USA had a government run health care program where would Canadian medical tourist (especially the politicians) go for timely Rx, and health care service?
The truth is that the US is know for it's excellent advances in medical treatment and research all over the world. There is a reason that this is so. The Medical system is a private one and is able to thrive and stay on the cutting edge because of it.

Less US Government bureaucracy in medicine will preserve the lives and health of countless numbers of people in America. (And even some Canadians too.)

Non-republicans are a wonderful bunch of idealistic yet very unrealistic dreamers. I love them, but let's hope that they don't open a Pandora's box of a govt health care system.

keep smiling!

Republicans believe in a strict capitalist economic system. This has never been successful btw throughout history.

Our country and economy was about to fold around the 20s until FDR created what I like to call a pseudo capitalist-socialist system.

The R party has been slowly picking away at this system for 30+ years and we are seeing the effects now. In the 60s, an executive's earnings ratio was $12 to 1 for the average worker. In the 90s that was 120 to 1 and now it is 360 to 1.

I vote G.

A. We love privatization and profit. We love to extol the virtues of profit seeking while ignoring the incentives it creates. It doesn't mesh well when you're talking about lives, about health.

B. This country is still caught up in the knee-jerk reaction to anything remotely associated with socialism. The cold-war mentality is alive and well.

C. The Republicans say government is too corrupt and inefficient to run it, because with them, it always is. Yeah yeah, Dems aren't great either. Our political system is even more broken than our health care.

D. Not all lives are worth saving, only those who can afford the enormous medical costs of treatment and/or insurance.

E. Taxes bad! Taking care of yourself good! Not everyone can afford it? Too bad for them!

Preventative medicine? Treatment? Cures? No!

Prolonged sickness? Life-long prescriptions? Yes! More profit for all parties involved, and only the public loses. We <3 drug companies, insurance firms, etc. Profit, profit, profit.

F. Who says you need to raise taxes for a war? Just let the troops bear the entire burden, watch as the economy collapses and the deficit builds, and encourage the populace to go shopping instead of making sacrifices.

But seriously... How's that health care up there in Canada? Are wait times as long for surgeries? Is it as bad as we're told it is? Even if universal health care is not the answer, it's clear our current system is broken.

I'd like to take the opportunity to give lilly4 a short answer:

lilly4: What you say may be true of the very rich who are able to travel anywhere when money is no object & are able to pay top dollar for the best doctors, who granted, reside in the US simply because they CAN make the most money. But how many people can afford that kind of treatment even living in the US? So, relistically, the best care is really not available to most of us anywhere, is it? Please stop comparing apples with oranges.

You would think more people would be for it. What right now you pay a portion into it that goes up every year.Your coverage for doctor's visits and prescription go up you pay more. Now I hear people get certain illness insurance companies deny them coverage just as home owner insurance has gone. You know you get flood insurance and when you get flooded oh by the your flood insurance doesn't cover natural disasters. On the other hand the government would have someone like halliburton running it.If it was run right it could work.

i think its a,b,c,e, and i am unsure about f
i think its a good idea but our standards for govt workers and officials need to be raised for this to be accomplished. reason number one, our current healthcare assistance programs are very bad. and reason number two our dmv is just horrible. ever watch the simspons? its pretty accurate on describeing how the dmv works when it comes to patty and selma. republicans know that if they attempted this healthcare system right now it would fail because they do not have the resources to hire competitent workers to handle all of the needs of the american people. they are afraid to try because they would fail. not all of our democrats even think its a good idea, because they know this as well. i do not think the american public realy understands how much power insurance companies have in america, especialy our govt. its kind of sad that we cant find a way to dig ourselves out of this mess.

C because in many countries with Universal health care , citizens cannot choose to get health care outside the system . How free is that ? If health care is free , that means whole blood is free . Will we continue to have voluntary blood donations ? Or will there be an IBSS (Internal Blood Sucking Service) that will take 10% or your blood every month for the blood bank ? Will there be a progressive blood taking system wherein the healthiest people will be required to give more blood ? A higher percentage that is . Is abortion on demand universally available ? Since under universal health care all must pay for the health care of anyone who needs it - will there be healthy life-style standards that each person must meet ? No greasy burgers , no cigarettes , a medium size glass of wine each day , 30 minutes of aerobics ?

Anyway it is my opinion that Universal Health Care would make us less free by limiting our freedoms - slowly but surely .
