is this a serious question? honey u know u left it in too long if u didnt change it when it was sposed to be changed. And just a cautionary, leaving tampons in too long increases ur chances of toxic shock syndrome. id say depending on how heavy you are def. no more than 4-6 hours, which should be in the instructions, really worth perusing.

Madison is correct. It is never safe to leave a tampon in too long, or you could get Toxic Shock Syndrome.

If you think that it has been in too long, go ahead and change, just to be safe. If it feels uncomfortable, you may not quite have it in position or it may be time to change.

You can feel it kind of swell, it sort of moves downward to where you can actually feel it. You know how when you put a tampon in normally, you just go about your day and you don't feel a thing? Well, when you leave it in too long it kind of swells up so...you feel it. I don't know how to describe it. It's uncomfortable. You should change it at least once every 4 hours.

Reading the box or the instructions they put in every package would be the best way to find out the hourly regulations for the size you are using.
If you leave it in to long you may feel dizzy or faint, you may also feel sick and may spike a fever. If you leave it in for a very long time you could develop serious complications, or even death. So read the directions, and please don't leave it in for more than 5 hours. It's very dangerous to be careless with something like that. I hope this information helped.
:-)

PS also a suggestion not to leave them in overnight, but some do. With that I would ask your doctor.

You need to check the wire hanging down from it regularly. If there is a blood drop on it, chances are you need to change the tampon. Normally you should change it every 4-5 hours, depending on its size. Otherwise, every few hours just go to the bathroom and check it this way: pull the wire down a bit, and if the tampon slides down easily, it's full. If it doesn't slide down and shows resistance, you don't need to change it yet.

Well most doctors and scholars say that you should only keep them in from 3-4 hours. So just keep track of your time and that should lead you to know problems. In the case you really shouldn't know you left it in too long from over that time then some serious problems could/can occur.

It leaks.
If you have left it in at the end of your period and it hasn't leaked because your flow is minimal, it can become toxic. So even if it isn't leaking, don't try to get extra use out of your tampon - change them regularily and often.

You need to change it every 4 hours- 6 hours at the most. If you leave it in too long you are risking getting Toxic Shock Syndrome which is deadly.
