Some players go for the money like Johnny Damon, who was quite clear about why he signed for the Yankees. Some go for personal reasons, possibly Andy Pettite. Some go for an opportunity to build a franchise, like Pudge Rodriguez signing with the Tigers after 2003. Money usually is the principal reason but it is not the only reason. Think of all the free agents who signed with the Cubs before the 2007 season.

What baseball player wouldn't want to play for the NY YANKEES....I only know of one who made in known to the public that he wouldn't play for the Yankees and that is Griffey JR....Reason he did not like the way his father was treated by the Yankees!!!
Don't you worry the Yankees will be world series champs soon enough...Joe Torre is gone win or loose he is done....I hope they don't make Don Mattingly the new manager he is a jinx!!! SINCE HE HAS JOINED THE COACHING STAFF THE YANKEES HAVENT WON!!! WHEN HE PLAYED THE YANKEES DID NOT WIN...THE YEAR AFTER HE RETIRED THEY WON IT ALL AND 3 MORE AFTER THAT!! HE IS THE CURSE NOT A-ROD!!!
Yankees need pitching from starting to middle relief to a closer...They need a soild first baseman and left fielder. IMO Mike Mussina Roger Clemens Kyle Farnsworth Carl Pavano Luis Vizcaino Ron Villone Doug Mientkiewicz Johnny Damon Jason Giambi SHOULD ALL GO Dont resign them, trade them,do whatever GONE!!! START NEW!!! FARM TEAMS From single A up to AAA is where they should focus most of there time and not singing washed up players to come to NY and crap out cause they cant handle playing on the BIG STAGE!!!
If the Yankees pull off a three game sweep I will just LMFAO!!!!

upload holliday, lackey, or probably harden could make the yank rotation much extra clever with sabathia. With A.J. in all threat long gone, the yankees desires a reliable pitcher to fill his spot. Matsui would or will possibly not sign with yet another team and if he does the Yankees can attempt to get Jason Bay.

Good question.
In my mind it's not true for many of them.
Signing with the Yankees = $$$$$$ plus all that media exposure. That's about it.
Clemen's commercial about the dropped cell call says it all.

i don't think there is any player out there who would not want to play for yankees if given the opportunity. just for the history of the yankees and knowing the caliber of the players that stepped on that field before them and lets not forget georges fat wallet which until they put a salary cap on baseball everyone's just gonna have to deal with it.

Honestly, as long as they get a good contract, a player would play for almost any team.
