I can't believe that you don't know the answer to this one.
First off - someone (with or without children) paid to educate these "dinks" (double income, no kids). And someone (again, with or without kids) is going to pay dearly if our public education system goes bottoms up.
It would be incredibly complex and chaotic to try and initiate a system of taxes tied to the actual percentage of use by each individual - highway funding from people without vehicles? That sucks, eh? And trash collection and recycling costs - would we have to weigh the refuse from each household to determine a fair and just tax percentage? And our defense spending - San Fransisco's portion would be what if it were based on perceived need?
Better we just all pay into the fund and elect people who will best represent the way we want our moneys spent.

Or perhaps we should abandon socialized education and allow people to provide for their own children. If a family can't pay the tuition then the school could provide discounts or even free tuition and write the loss off of their taxes. I think that sounds even better.

It is the right thing to do.
Would you deny childrens the chance to learn?

I moved from New Jersey, possibly the highest property tax area in the US.
I now live in Alabama, the lowest property tax area in the country.

NJ had state of the art schools, AL has trailers.
I would gladly pay more tax to help teach the childrens.
Maybe that is just me.

Because it's either that, as a good society should, or pay for the welfare and the prison that will come without it. It's not unlike the same questions those who don't use the public school system have asked for years. Why should I pay a school tax if I don't intend to send my kid to a public school?

Personally, when I see some examples of our educational system, it makes me feel like asking for a refund, but the fact still remains that education is a cornerstone of democracy. In other words, a democracy cannot exist without an educated populace.

Because people without children paid to educate them.

Why are people under 50 paying Social Security even though we probably will never receive it?

Why do I pay taxes to support churches in my vicinity? I do not go to them. Why don't they pay taxes like we all do? What makes them so special?

Why should anyone have to pay for this junk education system we have? Many of us home school or use private schools.
