it comes with a receiver that you will plug into a usb port. your keyboard on the other hand has a built in transmitter which sends data to the receiver.

It works by sending out a signal from the keyboard the the wireless port. The port (hooked up the the usb) sends a signal back making the keyboard type the text on your computer.

The keyboard has an infrared port, and the receiver has one too (it plugs into a USB port on your computer).

The keyboard also has batteries to power it, otherwise it would need a wire to use a wall socket.
