Early menopause or early spontaneous abortion (you would have conceived on day 10 of your cycle, or thereabouts, the egg tried to implant and failed, so your body flushed everything out).

I'm sorry, this isn't good news either way, but I think, with extra vigilance on the cycle, which may be a little erratic now, there's no reason you can't conceive. Hold your chin up and keep trying.

Well, it could be the onset of menopause. My mother's mp got way out of wack when it started to come on. She would have three periods on top of eachother, then not have one for six months.

Now that I have scared the crap out of you, (I'm sorry), the good news is, you might be pregnant. I've heard many stories of women having strange spotting and periods during early pregnancy. You ought to take a pregnancy test.

Finally, it was only a week early. So many things can mess up your period. Stress, lack of sleep, change in diet, and other things. You said you were trying to conceive which is an exciting time. That can always play a part in things being a little off beat.

Since you are wanting to have a baby, the safest bet would be to go to doctor to make sure everything is in good shape. And it's always a good idea to get a good exam from your ob/gyn before you decide to have children to solve any potential issues ahead of time, and to make sure everything is a green light.

Good luck!

I just happened to come across your question... My wife just had the same thing... 2 periods in one month Sep/Oct, 2007... She is also 39 years old... She inquired about it with her doctor... Have no fear, its normal in some women.
