I am confused about defining direct and indirect, specifically, if a line has various different slopes at different intervals, is it not either direct or indirect, or do the same rules apply as if it has a continuous slope. For instance, if between 1 and 10 a line has a slope of 8, and between 10 and 20, the line has a slope of 6, what is it?

All mathematical terms are well-defined. The words "direct" and "indirect" are not defined pertaining to graphs. Perhaps you are thinking of some other concept. The line that you describe can be said to be a segmented line or consisting of two segments or two rays. It is continuous in that you can draw it without "picking up the pencil". But you are correct in saying that it does not have a continuous slope.
