What powers authorized by a U.S President can be compared to the current U.S. Patriot Act? Some come to mind like FISA but what else? Also, what plots have been foiled after the Patriot Act has gone into effect?

This is for my Current Events class, and I thank you in advance for all help!

The Foreign Sedition Act passed during the administration of Woodrow Wilson comes to mind. Under that act he and his designated agent (Attorney-General) could round up foreigners who were thought to be subversives and be summarily deported after quick immigration service hearings. Several thousand were sent to the Finnish-Soviet border after being rounded up by the Attorney General.
We will never know the total number of plots that have been thwarted since passage of the Patriot Act, since we are still at war and most of that information is still classified. I know of one for sure but can't discuss it.
