If I download (from CD) Guild Wars Factions do I need to Download my Guild Wars Game of the Year Edition?

The Guild wars game client for Factions, and for every other Guild wars expansion, is the same client. One you installed one of them there is no need to install another. The access to the different campaigns is granted using a Key code that comes with the purchase. An account can have numerous keys and therefor have access to many areas of the game. To add a key-code to your already existing account, simply start the Guild wars Client, and at the welcome screen before logging in - you'll see the option to "Create account or add a new key".
You don't need Game of the year edition to play Factions but if you have both - you'll have access to both campaigns.

no not at all ive been playing guild wars for 2 years now u only download the version you want to play and then u can add new keys eventually to your own personal server

Download from CD? What are you talking about? Do you mean install? Then what? Did you go to the PlayNC site and download the GotYEd? I cannot help you without further clarification.

I believe the game of the year editions will give you extra bonus weapons so it's worth adding the key.
