Why her? First of all how did they find her out and out of all the people who download over 100's of songs how come she was picked out?
Why $220,000? That much for 24 songs! i don't understand please explain if you can

This is real simple, She stole the music. The music industry wants to make a few examples. If you steal music, you will have to pay the penalty if you get caught. Just like stealing anything else.

After the verdict, a representative for the RIAA stated that this is what happens when you choose not to settle.

Why she didn't settle, I don't have the foggiest...the law (all the way up to the Supreme Court) was clearly on the RIAA's side.

My guess is she was probably put up to be the fall guy by agencies interested in challenging the RIAA. Isn't it a bit convenient that this poor girl's case only involved 24 songs and she just seemed like every "girl next door" who just can't afford the injustice done to her here. If her sob story were true, her attorney would have advised her to settle for a small fraction of this and a promise never to do it again.

They will probably pony up the money for and probably ponied up the large legal fees accrued by her decision not to settle.

People like her have always been the stage-prop used to move agendas through the courts to the supreme court or in the court of public opinion. Clearly, people are outraged that this woman has been zapped for so much dough, so the court of public opinion is speaking.

Until I hear more from this "victim" found liable by the jury, I will be a bit skeptical that she was a pure party to this suit.

For the record, I despise the RIAA and all their shenanigans. I rooted for her to win, but believed she would lose.

I don't recall exactly how they caught her but think it was the the internet site she was using. Her major problem has been her attitude. She was offered a deal that would have cost her way less and said no. She claimed she did nothing wrong. She is now claiming she has no intention of ever paying anything. She is of an age that she doesn't realize how long forever is. The industry is now happy and even admits it will never get all the money but achieved what they wanted. That is, getting the word out that they will prosecute.

It's class warfare. The record companies are members of the super-rich and the people who share music files are preventing them from raping the public to the maximum degree.

The super-rich feel that they should be paid for the work of others -- in this case musicians -- in perpetuity. Only the super-rich welfare queens are able to get away with this kind of crap and it's due to the fact that they dominate the political landscape. Imagine the outrage if workers held a patent or copyright on the work they produce. Auto workers would be paid every time you go out and start your car. Electricians would be paid every time you turn on your lights. McDonald's cooks would be paid every time you burp. Etc . . .

I know I dont' understand this either, but if I were that woman I would turn around and sue the flipping pants of Kazaa or Limewire or whichever one ALLOWED her to take the songs in the first place.
I was downloading music off these places for so long and had NO idea it was illigal. If they don't want it to happen they should take better measures to avoid it other than bankrupting a single mother.
SHAME SHAME
I hope she turns around and ***** those stupid kazaa people over. I BLAME THEM!
