Bertuzzi is a good answer, but I will throw out another option, Sidney Crosby. The kid is an extremely talented player yet it seems that many, many people not from Pittsburgh just slam the kid because he gets so much press. It is not his fault that he is being pushed as the next NHL superstar. If people were offering you top dollar for advertising their products, you would take the money as he has done. Just ask Peyton Manning who is apparently working on advertising every product sold in North America. Aside from being a bit of a whiner, which both Gretzky and Lemieux were both guilty of at his age, the kid has done nothing aside from produce to this point.

I'd have to say Mike Modano.... not for his points (and he isn't criticized by the NHL talking heads but by NHL fans saying he is soft and is a pretty boy).... He might be a pretty boy (but I don't really see that) but he has totally bought into being a well-rounded two way player. He's actually excelled at it. He's actually a great defender who uses size and speed to knock off powerful forwards off the puck... he doesn't fight at all but with his skill why should he? Never understood why a lot of people on here and in chat rooms say he is soft.
I'd also agree with Bertuzzi... the NHL has allowed retaliation for a long time. I don't agree with maiming someone but I can see how things can go that way.

OK, the people above me said Todd Bertuzzi, but I have a completely different reason for criticizing him. Yes, he did assault Steve Moore with his horrible sucker-punch, but the reason I hate him, is because after that incident, he's turned into a worthless blob. Believe it or not, I might actually like him better if he went on and had a decent career, but he completely lost his mental edge, and I don't like him because of that. He is useless on the ice like a sack of potatoes, too mentally weak, that's why he'll never be a good player in the NHL again. IMO Bertuzzi is the most FAIRLY criticized player in the NHL.

Sorry, Bert earned the scorn. He had NO business as the number two scorer on his team going out after Moore ( a 4th line player). He gave hockey a black eye.
I think Crosby is the most unfairly criticized by people who are iether jealous or know nothing about hockey.

The Sedin twins.
People make fun of them all the time and call them 'soft' - its just not true. They just have a lot of class, a ton of skill and a lot more heart and toughness than people think. Toughness is not the ability to dish out punishment, toughness is the ability to take it and keep on playing with dignity and class.
288, you're just proving my point. Look who just got the winning goal tonight against the Flames.

Bertuzzi for all the reasons mentioned above
I also think Jeremy Roenick and Chris Chelios both take more criticism than they deserve
