My grandpa was a freemason until he "saw its evils" and went to become a Christian minister. He keeps my grandma in fear about it saying that if he tells anyone anything about it, the masons will kill him. I know this to not be true, based on alot of research and my brother who is in the fraternity. I got into an argument with my grandpa over the fraternity and the oath you take. How do I convince my grandma, possibly my grandpa, that freemasonry isn't a cult, or against Christian values. (I am 100% for Freemasonry, and firmly believe in its tenets. My problem is, my grandparents don't understand Masonry and why it has to have secrets. Again, This is in no way disrespecting Masons, I'm simply trying to alleviate their fears. NO ANTI-MASONIC REPLIES PLEASE!!!!!!!)

Ok, First of all, I do know what I am talking about. Second of all, Anti-masons, you have no proof to back up your claims that hasn't or can be disproven. Thirdly I have read 5 books, read dozens of websites and talked extensively with my brother, and I know for a fact there is nothing satanic or evil about them. Their organization can benefit all religions.

I am a freemason and I will help.

I do not know what your grandpa "saw" that made him think freemasonry is evil but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

First, no one has ever been hurt in any way for "revealing" the "secrets" of freemasonry. Second, there are no "secrets" to reveal, everything is available in written texts that you can view online and buy at places like Amazon and eBay. Perhaps go to phoenixmasonry.org and check out the many books they have online. Everything your grandpa knows about freemasonry, or learned about in Lodge can be found at that site, you can show him that there is nothing he knows that is not public knowledge. It might not alleviate his fears though.

Also, point out the billions of dollars per year the masons spend on charity: free hospitals, shools, youth and retirement homes, etc.... plus the USA was founded upon masonic principles (freedom of worship, speech, etc...)

Have him check out masonicinfo.com --- it has many facts that counter the lies of anti-masons.

to some other responses:

* freemasonry does not worship satan, anyone who believes this has absolutely no understanding of freemasonry. all of the "testimonies" have been shown to be lies, and many were admitted to be so by the people who started them. by the way, most of the anti-mason propaganda on the web is put out by a very small number of people. freemasonries teachings are taken directly from the bible; the problem anti-masons have is that they say "sacred volume of literature" because they are not a religious organization and believe that many religions can teach morality --- this is true, morality is not the sole province of christianity, judaism or islam. Also, check out the pending book from the Vatican that shows that after 700 years of lies and hatred, the Knights Templars are going to be completely exonerated based on a recently discovered 700 year old manuscript that proves their dedication to God and Christianity.

* Shihfu is correct, you may never be able to convince them... however you can say "you and your children raised me, if you are good and virtuous and they are, then you should trust me to make good and virtuous choices, i would not do anything to disrespect or harm you or your honor"...

* quite the opposite, masonry is incredibly cheap compared to what it use to be... it now costs less than a newspaper subscription

Brother
As a Catholic Mason I feel your pain. I may be wrong but I'll bet it wasn't what your grandfather saw but rather someone filled his head with alot of bull. Unfortunately people like that will never change their mind they believe what they believe for whatever reason but will never keep their mind open long enough to see the truth.
Shriners hospitals cost millions of dollars a day to operate wow the prospect of treating children with major illnesses for free sure sounds evil. The Scottish Rite initiative to teach people to read now that's got Satan written all over it. And the numerous other charities who we help. Our highest degree 33 how old was Jesus when he died?
For those of you anti-masons- You need to stop spewing the crap you Anti-Masons know nothing about!
I do more good for the world than you Christians who are doing all these amoral things but head out to church on Sunday and all will be alright with the Lord. I am not afraid to die and I know I'm Going to heaven and I discovered this as a Freemason can you say the same?

All of the Free Mason teachings can be found in the Bible. You just need to know where to look, and to know you have to be a member of the craft. All Masons are taught to look up the truth in the Bible, and it shows the Free Masons not satanic. Not saying there are not some cloak and dagger stories out there, but those are human stupidity not what the Masons are about. hope this helps.

Unfortunately, you will most likely not be able to convince them. Orders such as Freemasonry and the other esoteric orders to which your study may lead you attract people of an open mind and a desire for self improvement through self study and introspection.. If a person is already convinced it is evil, then nothing you do will convince them otherwise, and nothing they do will either, as they are unwilling to try. Remain respectful, but remember that it is examples such as this that remind us to keep such things secret. The best you can do is to continue to improve yourself through your studies, smoothing the roughness until no moan can find purchase for his fingers to tear you down. Hopefully through your example, you're grandparents' fears may be set to rest.

PS My dad was an ordained minister, a Mason, and an esoterist. He was also a man of principles and faith, who would not hesitate to leave Freemasonry if its beliefs were counter to his own. He never did.

First thing is there is no secrets in masonry. We do everything right in public. You probably won't convince them. The problem is that you are taught in church not to go into a covenant besides the churches, and that is what the oathes are considered. Many people don't understand that your OB is not taken literally anymore. I'm a Prince and a Noble, I haven't seen the evils yet. My dad, who is a Pastor, was a Prince and has no problem with it.

The Masons, or as it is known in the Shriners as "Blue Lodge" is a society built on the standards of freemasonry. There is nothing demonic about them. They are a community service organization. My daddy told me.

Freemasonry final foundation is worshiping satan. All its hidden meanings and oaths slowly point to him.
If your grandfather was a mason, how can assume that he doesn't know? I believe he understands it more than you do.
There are many testimonies regarding the Freemasonry subject.
I agree with your grandfather. It does not agree withe Biblical principles.

How can you ask a question & then say "no anti-Masonic replies?" My family were all Masons. Your grandpa is correct.
