Serious anxiety overlapped with depression, perhaps even bi-polar. These symptoms are serious and the first step is to head to a GP to get accurately diagnosed and referred to a specialist for treatment. This is no way to live ones life.

It doesn't sound like a personality disorder, just someone who lacks self-esteem and self-confidence, probably resulting from those failed relationships and being bullied in school. It sounds like you are avoiding putting yourself into situations where you might be risking being hurt again. I think this is a natural reaction to what you've been through. If you think it's something more, or if you feel you need help working through this, you might want to contact a counselor or psychologist. Sometimes just talking to other people (friends, too) can be reassuring. Good luck!

It doesn't look like a true personality disorder, but it does sound like a mental illness. And, yes, there is a difference. Maybe some type of anxiety disorder or possibly OCD. The good news is that drugs and behavior therapy can help ease the symptoms of any mental illness. I suggest that you talk with someone with training in mental illnesses, whether it's a psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health nurse, or counselor.

Poor self-esteem.
