have you loosened the tensioner on the lever and on the transmission?

Go to - your bike - Handle Lever
#20 is the clutch cable adjuster.
The big wheel is the lock nut.
Loosen the lock nut.
Screw the adjuster all the way in to the lever.
Align the slots in the adjuster, lock nut and pearch, together (the pearch is attached to the handlebar and the lever is bolted to the pearch).
Grab the clutch cable near the adjuster.
Squeeze the clutch lever.
Pull the clutch cable away from the adjuster, as you're slowly releasing the clutch lever.
Then slide the cable through the slots.
