For groceries, shop more at Costco, less at supermarkets. But don't waste money buying something in bulk if you only need a little. Buy raw ingredients as opposed to instant meals.

For clothing, either buy used, buy inexpensive (Walmart, Costco, etc), and don't buy too much. Don't buy something you'll only wear once, and only buy clothes that match other clothes in your wardrobe.

How much clothing does one need? Is everyone that rough on clothing?

I only buy clothing about twice a year, once for school and the other around spring. Unless I find a heck of a deal!

Groceries are usually cheaper when bought in bulk, buy items you use a lot that have long shelf life or last when being frozen. Junk food & quickie/ no prep meals cost more than there worth. Is your time saved worth the extra cash?

My husband and I have a jar, its a milk jug we cleaned out, and we put any extra change in there. When you go buy something with cash you ususally get change, nickles, pennies, dimes, etc. Well we just put in our jug and we call it our "emergency money". Let me tell you your change can go a very long way we have saved about 150.00 within a 2month period and it has come in handy several times when we were short on our morgage or needed gas money etc. Just tell your self it is for emergency's only. I would recommend trying it it could work for your household to. Also when you get paid put 1-5 dollors in the jug and save it. In no time you will have a good chunk of money.

Costco has exceptional deals on clothes and great for food too!

Also, read "The Richest Man in Babylon". A quick read that will inspire you to save!

Buy the unprocessed poultry and basic vegetables , rice and grains .
You gave no clue as to the family make up,
But kids outgrow stuff so fast , lots of people pick out stuff at salvation army or goodwill and just buy underwear new .

Well... while you are following a strict spending discipline, also look for ways to create additional income.

You can , you know. Good Fortune to you.
