Suppose you were stranded somewhere and you only had an endless supply of Hostess Apple Pies to eat. Assume you had plenty of clean water to drink, and Hostess Apple Pies have a shelf life of 100 year (even though they don't). How long could you live off of only Hostess Apple Pies, and if you would at some point die from this restricted diet, what would it be from?

Thanks for the replies so far!!! I am starting to think twice about my all Hostess Apple Pies diet plan =)

I was originally thinking of asking about Twinkies, but decided to switched it to Apple Pies to try to head off the scurvy responses. If possible could we assume Hostess Apple Pies have Vitamin C.

Is type two diabetes guarenteed to happen if I eat a diet high in sugar, even if I maintain a reasonable weight and do not have a genetic predisposition?

tlbrown42000 thanks for you very detailed response! What is different about cows that they are able to subsist on a diet without protein? Also if I am stranded with a cow, will the cow be able to live off of the Hostess Apple Pies and produce milk so I can live off of the combination of Hostess Apple Pies and milk?

Thanks again for your replies!!!

You are describing a protein deficient diet. You would have adequate carbohydrates and fats. But because you have no protein, you would develop Kwashiorkor. This is starvation that results in the typical picture we see of children dying in Africa with the bone thin body, but a huge belly. It results in death. A diet deficient in everything results in Marasmus. This is a starvation that results in bone thinness all over....like the people who came out of German concentration camps in WWII. Also resulting in death.

Okay....in addition....humans are not cows. Cows get protein from vegetation and have several stomachs to digest it. All living things are not alike in every way. If you were stranded the cow could not just eat the pies either...there is no protein for them. Hopefully you would be on a island with vegetation. In addition...the way cows are like humans is that they only produce milk after having a calf. They continue to produce milk as long as the sucking occurs and the milk is used.....just like humans. and eventually the milk gets of lower value....just like humans. So if you had a cow in this condition and it could eat...you would be much better off. If you had a cow....I'd butcher it and live off of it dried for a long time, with pie too. It would be vitamin deficient. Basically.....pray....or reminisce.

Diabetes, most likely.

You would last slightly longer then a straight starvation diet but not by all that much.

In most extreme diets the nervous system get screwed up for lack of a balance of electrolytes. AS you waste away, despite a high calorie diet, you muscles tissue will be cannibalized, cramping and twitching will follow.

You will probably follow the traditional scurvy route to death, or maybe pellagra, lose of hair, teeth, bleeding gums, fetid breath, weakness, indifference and then some opportunistic disease. Pneumonia is a good bet.

Let us know.

If you made it long enough to develop a deficiency, it would probably be scurvy and/or kwashiorkor. However, these things are so high in fat, you just might have a heart attack first, which would probably be a better way to go than slowly dying of malnutrition.

not only would I way 300 tons, but I am sure I would die of starvation , but boredom first,, then at my last moment of breath that is if I could get it,, I could only hope that God, would some how perform a miracle on me and save me by the possible vitamin C,,in all the apples of the Pie,,, but I think God, would rather bring me a glass of milk to go with the pies, as he takes me, and when they found my body it would would be "well" persevered by the apple pies preservatives,,

I would die from my diabetes, those are loaded with sugar. Not sure about vitamin C, next guess would be scurvy

It's totally void of Vitamin C and other necessary nutrients. Any type of infection would probably do you in.

I would die from the sugar loaded in them; I haven't even tried them yet.
