My car was sitting at an angle on the driveway and when I tried to start it today it would turn over but not start. The fuel tank showed empty which i knew it was not, so I rolled back onto the street where it was level and my gas gage moved up to 1/8 of the tank full.

Then I tried to start it, but it would only start when I rev'ed the engine and then would shut off. I would wait a 10 min and try again, I did this several times, until it started sounding worse, the engine would shake more. As soon as I stopped reving the engine would die. I added another gallon of gas and waited an hour but same problem. Did I damage the fuel pump?

I'm very broke right now and can't pay anyone to look at it. But I've never done much repairs myself on cars before. Any ideas?

** After letting it sit for an hour and a half. I decided to try again. And it started right away and the engine stayed on. I let it run for ten minutes and I heard a shhh noise from the engine that slowly died and went away. Now it sounds like normal. Is there anything I should look at so I don't damage anything?

To clear any "shut down" codes in the computer, disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple minutes.

Reconnect, and try again.

If it does the same thing, you need to see a pro.

Maybe air got in the fuel line. The fuel injectors probably just had to get primed with gas again.

Sounds like a fuel pump problem.
