and I definitely did not make up the name Nala (although I wish I did I like it!) it is actually common to the ear, from the movie, it's just not common for anyone to be named it

And I understand the Disney relations and the others (sounding like nada) but I was just asking to see if people like it I am not even pregnant! Trying to tell me how much I will ruin my child's life with a name like Nala.... I really appreciate all answers just the ones that try to tell me that a child's name will dictate it's entire life seem a bit rediculous =P

Wouldn't be my choice. Too many people naming their children for Disney characters. That's the lion girlfriend from the Lion King.

The name Nala used to be on the top of my girls names. THE VERY TOP. But everyone ruined it for me by saying the Lion King thing will haunt her forever. But that was years ago, most of the kids your baby will be in school w/ probably won't have ever seen the movie. I think it's a pretty name. You'll get crap from people who remember the movie, but I still love the name.

That's a nice name, Nala. It's actually used on the Lion King, Simba's little girlfriend.

I have heard of it. It's not common, but then most names are not common nowadays. In my youngest child's kingergarten class, there were SO many names I'd NEVER heard of before, for boy and girl and after substitute teaching for 8 years, I thought I'd heard of them all! Nala would not be my choice for a name. Sounds too much like "na-na". For girls, I like prettier sounding names. Also, most kids prefer names that aren't TOO uncommon, as they can be made fun of if their name is weird (and that might be okay if you're an outgoing kid, but not so great if you're a shy, conservative type). Nala is okay, but just not the greatest.

I think Nala is a very pretty name. It would be ok for a girl, but I always thought if it as more of a cat name. My sister-in-law has a cat named Nala. But, don't mind that, I think it would sound nice as a girl's name! Good luck!

I think it's lovely.
And I recommend not choosing your child's name based on whether or not kids will tease her or whether people will have issues pronouncing it correctly...children tease each other and don't need extra reasons to do it, so don't write off a beautiful name for that reason.
My sisters all have uncommon names, some are combinations of names and some have a searchable history and though people sometimes have had issues with our names for whatever foolish reasons, we love not knowing other people with our names and don't mind explaining the spelling or meaning (except when people are just being rude, then we ignore them entirely). We each love the stories behind our names and why our mama chose them. anyway, if you like the name and it feels right, go for it.
peace.
