Lincoln was attending a play at fords theater when he was shot from behind in the back of the head by john Wilkes booth.With the president at the time was the first lady Mary Lincoln and a major rathbone and his fiance. major rathbone was stabbed in the arm by booth as he tried to stop him from escaping. The president was carried across the street to a boarding house were he died the following morning. A few interesting side notes are as follows:The plays name was Our American Cousins,Booth broke his leg escaping as he jumped from the presidents box,Booth was easily recognized as his family was considered some of the greatest actors of the time, at the same time as the assassination of the president one of booths conspirator's was trying to assinated sec. Seward and another the vice president, another member of the members associated with booth was Mary surrate who would be the first women hung in American. Finally both was killed 2 weeks later by a union cavalry sargent who shot him through the neck.
