6 inched glass looking like a barbell?

found this at a tag sale I know I have seen it in antique stores but can reminber what it is or used for .. I thought it was a knife rest but can't find any info on it any body out there got an Idea

Sounds like part of a Mortar and Pestel or basically what you have was used to grind up ingredients by Pharmascists to make medicine. Or grind up pill form drugs to make liquid form medications.
