What type of mice is better for feeding snakes: Field mice like at the pet store or African mice? I know African mice are cheaper and more efficient but, will they provide the same nutrients as normal mice?

Most pet stores do not carry either field or African mice, but a common white mouse. These are what you should be feeding a pet snake. The common mouse; they can be found in various colors, if you snake prefers a specific color. Some do. I've known snakes to only eat female white mice versus male white or female black.

Ok, I breed both mice, and african rats. I know that if you have a ball python or sand boa, or any other picky eater, if you keep feeding it african rats, it wont eat regular mice if it decides it doesnt want the rats anymore. This can be a challenge to get it back on its normal feeding schedule. So what i do is feed all of my 8 snakes a african rat 1 time out of the month, so one friday out of the 4 in a month. this will keep it feeding right and if it decides it doesnt want a african rat or a mouse, i have another feeding source so i dont have to depend on just one kind of food.

Field mice are not used for pet snakes, as they have a higher incidence of parasite infection. Domestic white mice, including the colored variety, are typically raised and used for most snake food. African mice are usually smaller and sometimes used for tiny hatchlings. They would provide the same nutrients if fed correctly.

If your snake is a purchased snake, you really shouldn't feed it wild mice as the incidence of internal parasites in them is very high & a captive bred snake will have great difficulty dealing with these parasites. Gerbils are a bit larger than white footed mice, but certain snakes might not recognize them as food & refuse to eat them.

there is not any such component as a reptile professional. there is people who've an information in a definite species of reptile yet reptiles ordinarily is a extraordinarily vast type. this is form of like announcing somebody who has geared up homes is a shape professional. there is not any such component as a shape professional. There professionals in specific fields yet no longer on the subject as an entire. returned to vast of a field. yet another occasion may be to declare a doctor is an expert in well-being care. If that became the case we does not prefer professionals. professionals are professionals interior their field. i think of what you're touching on is advertisements that say for more suitable keepers. some species are harder to maintain than others for one in each and every of those motives and could require a sophisticated potential set. An intense occasion must be somebody who has saved a corn snake for 2 years in all probability shouldn't bounce to a black mamba as their next captive. those snakes require 2 thoroughly distinctive potential units to maintain. in case you have saved lizards that require a similar husbandry habitual to frilled dragons and you have researched frilled dragons distinctly then you fairly are in all probability waiting to handle that venture.

I can help you here.I would go with the African store mice because they are bigger than field mice, and the have more nutrients for snakes. They might be a little more expensive but its worth buying them because it will be less you have to feed your snkes. Two field mice probably equal the same amount as one African mouse.but two field mice equal the same amount of nutrients as one African mouse. So i would go with African Mice.
