Names like Aiden, Hayden, Jackson, Harrison...

I like names that are original, but not weird. How do you feel about the subject?

I don't know any soccer moms named Aiden, Hayden, Jackson or Harrison. ;)

The names you've listed are not my style, but they are extremely popular. Aiden was the 30th most popular boys' name in 2006; Jackson was the 36th; Hayden was the 73rd.

I prefer something a little more classic - Henry, James, Alexander, David - or a little more exotic - Gideon, Diego, Rhys.

But none of your choices are unreasonable, and I wouldn't cross a name off the list just because its current.

I love Aiden and Hayden! Jackson and Harrison are nice, too.

I don't know how these could be described as soccer mom names, though.

They are all quite "trendy" at the moment. Aiden was ranked #30 in most popular baby boy names in 2006, Jackson was #36, Hayden was #73, and Harrison was #232.

I guess that makes Harrison the least trendy of the names listed.

Good luck and best wishes to you!

Well, I am a Soccer-Mom, at least all of my kids play soccer, and the names of the kids range very widely. I've heard Aidan, Ruby, Ava, Jackson, Natalie, Trevor, Andrew (lots of these), Ashlyn, Kate, Ellie (Eleanor), Audrey, Alex, James, Daniel, Harper, Sam, Nicholas, Jonah, Isaac, Alana, Elliott, Ethan, Graham, MIles, Tobias, Michael, Gabriel, Piper, Zoe, Hunter.

I like names that are traditional, but not common. I don't like made up names.

I am an elementary school teacher and sometimes parents attempts at being unique drive me up a wall. Last year I had THREE Katelyn/Caitlin/Kaitlynnes. In fact Katelyn/Caitlin/Kaitlynne is an excellent example of a new and unique name gone wrong.

I also are driven crazy by parents who give names with strange spellings who then get angry when their kid's name is mispelled. Great examples of late include Jef, Lyndsee, Jenah, Maysee, Macie, and Jonn.

BTW - I have two boys: Henry and Phillip. They are named after their grandfathers.

-Aiden is a great name imo.
-Hayden makes me want to hit things. It's so trendy and it just reminds me of the -ayden names I hate- Kayden, Brayden, Jayden, etc.
-Jackson is cute imo. I hate when people spell it Jaxon though.
-Harrison is a bit pretentious but I would choose it over an -ayden name anyday.

I like the names themselves, but I can't stand hearing them anymore. They're way too popular for me to think about using at all. Haydn used to be on my short list, and Harrison was on the list, too, but now I kind of twitch when I hear them.

I personally lean towards names that are more unusual, classic, or old-fashioned, like Daphne, Margaret, Ivy, James, Theodore, William, and Sebastian.

I don't like the trendy names at all.

For the most part, it sounds like parents are trying to name their child something weird so as to accessorize themselves, and not to give a life-long name to another human being.

Same goes for some of the creative spelling choices parents make.
