I think I may have deleted a past homework assignment that I need again to refrence for my midterm. . .

Go to your "Recycle Bin" and restore said file. Otherwise you would need to find a program that can retrieve deleted stuff. You can try download.com to find a program. It may not be worth it for a homework assignment though.
If your "Recycle Bin" has not been emptied it should just be there.
You could also just do a search for the file, it will show you the location if it is on the computer anywhere, including the recycle bin.

Search your hard drive or go to Google.com and install the desktop search. It will index your PC and allow you to quickly find needed files.
