I'm going to buy a flash drive for school. (Currently a freshman in high school) But I don't know how much memory I'll need for my flash drive that's best and will last me throughout high school and college? I just don't understand GB MB KB? Thanks so much for your time.

It is difficult to predict how much larger files will get in the future, however at present, you will find that a 2 GB flash drive (which costs about 20$) will serve you very well. All of my electronic files from my colledge education (1792 files) would have only used 1/3 of that space.

If in the future, towards the end of high school or in college you need a larger drive, you will be able to get what you need for 20$ or less, so keep that in mind instead of trying to buy something now that will last you for 10 years.

Well here's some info for you.

KB = Kilobytes = Thousands of bytes

MB = Megabytes = Millions of bytes

GB = Gigabytes = Billions of bytes

An average MP3 song is about 3 to 4 Megabytes (MB)

An average photo is about 300 Kilobytes (KB)

Hope this helps you understand a little better.

Actually, unless you're going to transport lots of music and photos, a 1 GB will suffice, and a 2 GB is normally more than plenty. I actually use a 512MB one, and it suffices for everything I want to transport and they are quite common for under $10 for the 512MB size. A 2GB will run you around $50.

Hope this helps.

goto radioshack.com and enter this number in the search:

It is a 4 GB SanDisk flashdrive with U3.

so, you can store tons of stuff on it, and the u3 lets you run programs like Firefox and OpenOffice right from the USB.
