I believe it means:
Taking notice of and believing in, Gods word will guide you and light the way as you walk along your pathway through life.
Put simply; believing will smooth your way through life.

God's Word is also Jesus Christ who is the Light of the world. His light shows us the way to salvation. Because the people of the world live in darkness the only way to find yourself out of darkness is by way of light. Jesus is the only TRUE light. Because of this, he will direct your path to the God the Father.
JN 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
