Audition and get cast in a community theatre musical?
Take a community college acting class?
Zero in on the men without women at a craft store.
Get a job at The Gap
I know all of those sound horribly stereotypical but I have a gay friend and he's done all of those things.

Attend gay & lesbian community events. Many times the gay bars will have publications that list each month's events. Go to some of them. They are usually a LOT of fun, and often also raise $ for AIDS awareness, battered women's shelters, and other things that help people. Also, pick up your local "Free Weekly" and look for events listed there. You often find various interest groups that are also gay & lesbian, but devoted to things like sports, camping, fishing, poetry, theatre, dance, art, and music.

You can't just go out and "get" a gay friend. We're not sold at the corner market. Try being a friend first.
