I started my period about 3 days ago and my breast started hurting about 2 days before that. I looked online at web md symptom checker and it says I might have breast cancer. Is this true? I mean they are tender to the touch and rather sore. I tried to "express" like you do when you are breast feeding and some clear/brown looking stuff came out. What could it be? I have no history of breast cancer in my family.

I am 24 years old and my nipples are brown/pink. The drainage looks clear on white tissue paper.

Hi Jenni.
I know it is improper to ask you age, but its one of the most important criteria for deciding breast cancer. It is more likely if you are above mid 30s. But no family cases is very good factor to consider.
If it hurts with some brown discharge, it is most likely an infection of one of 15 or 16 milk tubes in your breast. The breast is tender, there is a nipple discharge that you may notice in your underclothes, and the skin is little red. Here you must get antibiotic drugs. It is common if you are breast-feeding a baby.
As a common rule, cancer is never painful until it compresses nearby tissue. It is not red and you most likely find a hard mass in breast. I don't think this is the case with you.
Another thing is cracked nipple. Dry nipples , especially while breast feeding, crack up and bleed a little. The dried blood is brown, and the sore nipples make it tender and red.
I think you should check with your doctor.
Even if its nothing abnormal, check it with a doc. Its a big relief to know its nothing!
Best luck!

You should go get checked. SOON.

This happened to my aunt, and by the time she went to have it checked it was to late. she died 4 months after being diagnosed.

It could be nothing, But what would it hurt to find out. It may save your life.

I think about my aunt everyday. She was my favorite, I miss her deeply.

Hope everthing is o.k. but pleeease go get checked.

Go to your gynecologist. It may not be serious but you don't want to leave something like this to chance if there is something wrong. Family history or not, just get it checked out!

Some people have that before they get their period. It's normal. But just to be sure, go get it checked.
