When that happened to me in the past, I went to the bathroom, sent a text message to my best friend to give me a call. Then, with a "concerned face", excused myself and left.
LOL!
Now, I have kids, so it's always "the babysitter calling and one of the kids has fever excuse"!

I would hope that the saying Time Flies was true because the arguing and fighting is a discomfort to those who have to suffer for these people and the time is not enjoyable at all. However your solution is pretty good as well as the wine would being me some solace .

I would excuse myself to go to the restroom and just get out of there!
But if I was already seeing the person for some time, I'd tell him to shut up or something along those lines.
Life is too short to deal with BS.

I would tell that person I didn't feel well or was tired, or be really truthful and tell them I was having a lousy time, and wanted to go home --if they drove.
If I had my own transportation, I would just tell them I needed to end the evening and tell them thanks, see if I needed to pay my share of dinner or for drinks or whatever, and get the heck outa there.

Happened to me once. Dated this varsity chick, who did this to me. Heck, I was decent enough to give the matré D a couple of bucks to pay towards her taxi fee, after I pulled the exit with the "restroom excuse" . . .
I pity her next date: probably ranted and raved about moi to him!!!! LOL!!!

I have that happen more times than I care to count. Drink what ever it is that I am drinking and pick ANYTHING up that is near me and start reading it.

my neighbours came over on her bd, and all they did was argue all night and I finally said enough if you can't say anything nice to each other your gonna have to leave, and it worked,I also said I don't now why the two of you stay together with all the conflict you have between you...=-)
