And what will happen, when you'll pass Halo over and over again?
In the long range - PS3 will win the war. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs. Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.
Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:
A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%.
PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. To estimate its power (roughly) - take 6800 Ultra nvidia graphics card, multiply it by 2 - get a result, still PS3 stronger, because 6800 Ultra runs on 400 Mhz and RSX runs on 550 Mhz.
PS3 has a chip from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This card is on sale for PC. The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.
Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.
On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 120 GB will cost you around 120$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. Soon there is going to be cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.

I would actually recommend 360 because I have one and have had no problems and it has the best games, but at the same time not recommend it for the long run, because many people(not me) have had hardware failures with it. The feared red ring of doom. But Microsoft have said they they will include the next falcon chip in the 360's made now. These are in the Halo 3 Console, and I'm not sure about the elite, but pretty sure they have the chip too. About Ps3 and Wii, I have a wii, it was great fun in the beginning, especially wii tennis, but you begin to realise how insuperior it is to ps3 and xbox 360. About Ps3, it is pretty expensive but if you can spend that kind of money, you will still have to wait a while because there are hardly any good games out on it yet. But I would recommend 360, especially if you're a halo fan.

You should probably consider what types of games will be available for the counsoles.
The Wii is admittedly family friendly, and will inevitably be the host for many classic games like Zelda, Mario, and Donkey. As well, Nintendo has in the past displayed a penchant for releasing games for every movie, cartoon, whatever of any particular popularity that comes along. This means plenty of fun classic games, some inovative new games every once in a while, and a whole lot of junk no one in their right mind would play.
Playstation products tend to have a diverse range of games. Like Nintendo, they also release games for whatever's popular, but generally what's popular in Japan - which means games like Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist. I've never personally owned a Playstation and thus haven't done enough investigation to know more than that.
Xbox has Halo, of course, and a bevy of shooter and sports games. There is generally a paltry showing in other genres, but beyond that, they tend to port PC games onto the console, like Spore and Oblivion. So if your PC sucks to much to play the good PC games, or you like sports ad shooter games, the 360 would be a good choice.

tough choice. this is from my point of view:
the xbox 360.
the ps3 is showing NO PROGRESS because it came out when the WII came out and the wii sold over 10 million consoles and the ps3 barely sold 4 million. the ps3 is too overpriced, anyways. blu-ray is a rip-off and the ps3 has no good games. the wii is too childish and has bad graphics and will NEVER have any good games only because of the remote. by elimination, xbox 360 wins. it also has awesome games and gameplay, but it will be the first console to go becauseit was the first console to be released. it will get discontinued in probably two years.

wel i think ur on the right track with the 360. it does have the halo games which are sweet, and also gears of war which is another frikin amzing game. but idk wii is more like the gamecube, which has more comic games like super smash bros. and othrs and isnt exactly for the hardcore gamer. the ps3 i guess is ok but im going for a 360 no matter wat.
