It's usually free to get someone to come out and look at your situation. They will have to determine where the dish will have to aim to pick up the signal. It may not even be in the direction of the mountain.

Like a previous answer, it would be easiest if you called an installer and have them come out and check. However if you want to get an idea about the possibility you will have to have Azimuth and Elevation that the satellite is located from your location. There is a web site that has a map where you can find the Latitude and Longitude of your location which will give you the Azimuth and Elevation. If I am not mistaken Dish Network and Direct TV uses satellites at 110 and 119 degrees. The web site will explain it in detail and by entering your zip code it will give you the general location and by enlarging the map you can pinpoint your location. Of course if it is more trouble than you want to go through, call a provider. ...Good Luck...

The most important thing is if your facing the right direction. Usually south or south west. Unless the mountain is within 2-5 feet of you balcony, then your fine. The birds in space are almost 25000 miles away, so it takes something pretty darn close to the dish to block it completely.

These companies will give you a free check-up and see what works for you, have them come out and see. It all depends where their satellite is, these other answers are pretty much the same.
