President Bush? How would you rate him??? I've been learning a lot of interesting things about him in my US Gov class. Here are some things.

Is it truth that he has lied to us americans numerous times, streched executive powers to expand his presidency power, is he ordering that americans be spied on at will without a search warrent, used to work with president nixon with watergate, completly ignores things written out in the US consitution that says he can't do things, but does it anyway?

I heard the things he has done is enough to get him impeached? If this is all true, why hasn't it happened?

Here is a site we were given in class with an article showing us what Bush has done against our constitution and it shows a copy of the constitution with things Bush is ignoring or going against.

I'm guessing you're sincere in your questioning the President and it is your RIGHT to question him.

HOWEVER, if you're basing your questions on blogs and websites rather than news sources (television, magazine, newspapers, etc.), you're being led astray.

Blogs and websites all have an objective- whether left- or right-wing. Very little truth lies there, rather someone's interpretation of the truth. (There are actually websites out there which claim the moon landings were all a hoax. Are you going to buy into those?)

President Bush was in college at the time of Watergate. His FATHER was head of the CIA at one time.

His 'spying' is NOT being done at the White House, and any spying being done is for national security as approved by BOTH Democrats and Republicans as part of the Patriot Act.

If the President was doing things which he can't as outlined in the Constitution, he'd be under impeachment.

Stretching executive powers? They're EXECUTIVE powers. Again, he'd be impeached quickly if he was.

Am I a fan of the President? Not really. But I respect the man and the Office of Presidency, regardless of the party in power.

Personally, I'd go with my parents to a Board of Education meeting and complain about the teacher. He/she obviously has an agenda to taint- rather than educate- young minds. And he/she doesn't know jack-sh!t about history.

I don't know about the Watergate accusation... I doubt it. Some of the other charges, however, are fair.

He has stretched executive power as much as possible and resents checks on his power (i.e. the other branches of government) and dissenting opinions. He does have a *very* secretive administration. He harbors the most powerful and secretive vice-president in our nation's history. He has gutted certain provisions of the constitution, re-defined others, played semantics with issues ranging from torture to illegal spying, and continually falls back on 9/11 to justify it all. He pushed us into a war that continues to be a dead-weight on our nation, and he did it on information he knew was faulty and misleading.

I could go on, and on, and on. People from his own side -- his own administration even -- have echoed these accusations.

If you go by the Clinton standard of impeachment, then yes, Bush has done far more to harm this country than lying about a hummer. Don't take anyone's word here for it... just read up on him yourself. He's been poison for this country on so many issues, but hey, wouldn't you like to have a beer with him?

As for the spying issue... you can't stop terrorism completely, especially through war that breeds more extremism. Even with the most sophisticated spy programs, you just can't stop certain acts -- our society runs on trust, and that trust is easy to violate for those who choose to do so. Giving up that trust means suspecting our neighbors at all time, when only 1/100,000 may actually mean us harm. Giving up our freedom means giving up our country and everything it stands for, and that's those are the real threats as I see it.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

I'm not going to visit that site, but I will try to answer a few things. And yes, he has terrifically stretched, and abused Executive Powers, like no President in history has!

First, yes, Bush has gone against the Constitution. The Iraq War is an example... it was never passed by Congress, and ONLY Congress can Declare War, thus, it is an illegal war.

The Patriot Act of Bush's is also against the Constitution. We've just had one judge declare parts of it unconstitutional, and I am sure there will be more. Using something in the name of Terrorism doesn't make it right---but it sounds good, and takes away more of our rights while sounding good!

That moron in office has done more damage, taken more rights than any President in history. He has destroyed the respect America has around the world, the economy has plunged, unemployment up, the deficit bigger than ever...he has raped America's finances for this illegal war! Forgotten our own people---like the Katrina victims(actually Bush victims)
And Cheney is right there next to him---Cheney is probably the one actually in command, considering Cheney's connections with Halliburton, who is in Iraq, rebuilding. So, it's a neat package, that is about to get untied. I've noticed Bush easing up these last couple of weeks---- but he has already destroyed any respect the Republican party may have had. Watch the news... or read, many Republicans are distancing themselves from him, now. Personally, I think we are under an Authoritarian rule(please look that up), and, yes, I believe Bush to be an Imperilist. Do some research on Bush.

Granddaddy Bush, Prescott was born in Ohio, later became a Connecticut Senator. 'Trading with the Enemy Act' had alot to do with him--he was basically financing the Nazi Regime, and actually had his finances frozen! The moron in office was born in Connecticut... he is not a Texan...BUT, it behooves him to claim Texas, and it is also an admission he is an Oil Man---run by others. There was some information about W. having some dealings with BinLaden's half brother(Salem BinLaden) in the late 70's(might have been after Bush's DUI) concerning an Oil Company, of course. Also, let's not forget Daddy, former Bush President... during his tenure with Reagan, there was the Iran-Contra affair. But, don't believe me, just read, you will find a long list of illegal activity by the Bush family.

PS. Congress NEVER DECLARED WAR, the last Declared War was World War2, just because others have done it, does not make it right, that does not justify this illegal war. And let's not forget Bush has actually instructed some to ignore...yes, ignore, Congressional Supboneas! What IS Bush hiding? I can almost guarantee that if ANY of us ignored ANY kind of subponea we'd be thrown in jail...

(I am not against an responder's opinion, thoughts or ideas. I believe in The Bill of Rights, The Constitution, and the Rights enumerated)

Everything except for the Nixon and watergate thing is true. He is helping move America into a facist imperialism. Everything that you said about the lying and spying is true because it goes against the constitution and is "legal" through the use of National Security Letters made available when the PATRIOT ACT was enabled again unconstitutionally by Bush.
And for all the republicans out there read the constitution and the Patriot act before you go and give me a thumbs down. You need to open up your eyes and finally come out of the closet.

Indeed... from the rigged votes in Florida, to the death knell request for 'special powers'... this administration is what is classically called a coup; the replacement of the 'head of state', done so seamlessly as to pass notice of the general public. Once this ball is rolling, it is hard to stop. It looks like we're in for a long, hard "New World Order", with the delegation from the great state of Texas at the helm.

Of course, I've always held the belief that the USA is not, in practice, a two party system; rather, that the two primary factions (Republican/Democrat) are one big happy family, playing "Good Cop; Bad Cop" with the nation. And, it is entirely possible that our other 'aliances' in the global political arena are also willing participants in this grandest of all fantasy role playing game called 'Politics'.

Yes, Bush is the Worst President Ever. He has not been impeached for several reasons:

Refuses to testify before Congress.
Refuses to turnover documents to Congressional Committees.
Too many Republicans in the House and Senate are clinging to the sinking ship.

The Republican money machine is very powerful and even if Bush is a complete criminal miss using his executive powers it is still very difficult to have him impeached. It would require direct evidence that he lied or mis lead the American people and the Senate and Congress. I feel their is no doubt that his administration did use their influence to make a case to go to war even when they knew they did not have hard evidence that Iraq was a threat to the USA. For this reason Bush and Chaney will be remembered though out history for their corruption and deception and they will be a black eye for the Republican party.

You can't just blame Bush, all of Congress is at fault too. Bush can't just make laws.

That type of action was used by Clinton in the 90's, was used in Vietnam and Korea; COngress consented so your first point is moot.

Oh and what, you are shocked ot hear that the Bin Ladin family was friendly to the west, oh big shock. I only heard that on from a lot of main stream sources. More or less Osama is the one bad egg in that huge family. Condemning the Bush family for dealing with the Bin Ladin family prior to 911 is like condemning someone for having get togethers with a neighboring family whose son is arrested for murder 5 years later.

When the WTC was first attacked back in 1993, Clinton enacted warrantless wiretapping using electronic surveilance (Echelon). The NY Times called Clinton's domestic spy program "a necessity". Eight years later 9/11 happened. 3,000 innocents die. President Bush activates warrantless wiretap. NY Times calls Bush's domestic spy program "illegal".

Democrats and liberal media claim Bush lied about Saddam possessing WMD's. The truth is, the Dem's were the one's who started the WMD rumor and Bush used the intelligence gathered by the Dem's to make his argument.

What proof do they show you of this?
When I listen to some of these Profs they come up with such
stuff as this and I like to see the proof. The article by Christopher Dickey that was in the Newsweek article is not proof....(the one you gave the site for)

Did they tell you President Clinton and a lot of people in Congress are felons? That President Clinton lied....about Monica Lewinsky? Not only to his wife, but the world.

There is truth and there are facts.

I rate him as a great President. He will be vindicated and that very soon. He has kept us safe since 9-11. No new taxes, and the employment is good.

The liberals are trying to win the Presidency...and God help us if they do. Hillary is going to raise taxes to pay for her health care program....that means you will pay for it...higher taxes...

Ask your Prof about that and ask him if she is a socialist.

edit. by the way luke, michel K has the right scoop on the truth. he has a great answer and it is true.....sorry if I got 3 thumbs down but that the way the way it is..
