Just be honest. Maintain that you're embarrassed if that's how you feel and it really was an accident. If it was a mistake, then anyone in a similar situation would be embarrassed and empathetic over how it came across or was interpreted. If there is no deception on your part, even if the mistake made it seem so, then you have no reason to hide or cover your embarrassment with lies or trickery.
